14.5 Wrap Up

CrossFit Creature’s inaugural Open is over, ending with a gruelling workout that tested the limits of all participants.

14.5 had no time cap and was a couplet of two of the toughest movements in CrossFit; but that didn’t stop Creature athletes facing up to the test with courage and tenacity.

Never one to back down from the challenge, 'Q' kicked off 14.5 at Creature with a stoic performance on Friday night. Q battled hard for 25 minutes to finish the workout RX and with one of the best times in the Region in his Masters Category. Q's mettle has been infectious around the box over the past five weeks, and his help in judging, filming and setting up has been extremely generous. Thank you for your contribution Q, we can't wait to see your progress in 2014!

Genevieve Pitkeathly was a standout performer on Saturday morning. ‘Gen’ attacked the workout at an impressive pace and refused to slow down, finishing with a very competitive time. Despite the difficulty of the thrusters and burpees, the workout was still not enough to stop Gen dancing post-workout, proving that no workout can keep her down. From the men, Tim Chalmers again proved his fitness with a lightning time of 11:09, proving that tall men can do burpees. The workout also finished off a great five weeks in style for Tim, well done.

The final, and much anticipated, Creature Spirit award went to ‘The People’s Champ’ JR Bedford. JR showed no fear and tore through the workout in 15:03, one of the best times day. JR’s positivity has been contagious all open, regardless of the challenging workouts that have shown up. Additionally JR has been a huge asset in helping judge and motivate athletes throughout the open. Congratulations and thank you!

For some athletes the highlight of the day was still to come with the Paleo Bake off. The final result came down a thrilling finish when Paleo Connissure Mick Taouk cast his vote in favour of Bec’s Raw Snickers Slice to make the event a tie with Gemma Stephens Choc-Coconut Truffles. Thank you very much to Emma Stewart for organising the event and all chef/athletes who provided us with some delicious paleo treats! Keep experimenting with your recipes and we will see you at the next one!

Sunday saw a migration of Creatures out to CrossFit Norwest in Dural for the Alpha Fit & Blue Dinosaur 14.5 Throwdown. Coach Rory Boyden put on an exhibition with a jaw-dropping sub-10minute performance, reminding all in attendance that he is a genuine contender in the battle for a spot at the CrossFit Games this year. Additionally, Coach Lachlan Rowston and athlete Kam Ahmed did a fantastic job in commentating the event; Pat Sherwood lookout! Thanks to all Creatures who came out to Dural, Alpha Fit for their support and putting on a fantastic event, and of course all of those who donated to Camp Quality. Rory's great effort, combined with some strong performances from Antoinietta Mansillo, coaches Ev & Kat and 'Blocker' Walsh have contributed to the Creature Team finishing the Open in 5th position!

Congratulations to all athletes who have competed with such grit over the past five weeks. It has been both fun and inspiring judging and coaching throughout the season. Looking forward; you can expect to see some more rigorous programming during the week to ensure we all improve our fitness for next year. If you have any particular goals in mind after reflecting upon this years open, please come and speak to one of the coaches and we will work with you to develop a plan to achieve it!

Enjoy a short rest creatures, and then see you back at the gym!
